Small projects, special yarn

Over the last few months, I've been knitting my way through "special" yarn stash, including the Milena shawl and my Cyril socks. Most recently, I've finished a few more little knitted things, using up special yarn. I've never wanted to have a large stash of unused yarn. As much as I love sprinkling my life with beautiful things, yarn, like other good things, can get out of hand. And at the end of the day, I want to only have beautiful/useful items in my life.

So I want to knit with the pretty yarn, enjoying it for what it is, and nothing more. Using it and enjoying it, rather than saving it 'til kingdom come, accumulating more and feeling heavier by the weight of unused beauty.

Without further ado, here are four smaller projects I've finished over the past few weeks:

More honey hat

A beautifully textured hat, with cables and honeycomb knit. I made it of out Quince and Co Phoebe, a yarn I've been knitting with a lot recently! I just added a pom pom to this, and I'm even more happy with it. Now for cooler weather so I can actually wear it. But something about this color is perfectly fall and wintery to me. Bonus: it also fits Nicholas so we can share it. For more details, see my ravelry page.

Brioche cowl

I've had this gorgeous gold yarn from Legacy Fiber Artz in my stash since last fall, waiting for the right project. It is a more variegated yarn, and so I wanted to use it in a way that would show off the yarn, without the patches of color in the yarn pooling. I had some leftover ivory DK yarn that I originally bought to possibly include in my Ninilchik Swoncho. Ultimately, I didn't use ivory in my sweater, and so I had two skeins leftover. The ivory tones down the gold, and the brioche shows off the color subtleties of the gold yarn. It was so soothing to knit; I love the rhythm of both one- and two-color brioche. Plus, the finished cowl is so snuggly! It's reversible, so there's a subtle side and a less subtle side. And its deep enough that I can wear it folded in half, like a smooshy cowl neck. See my ravelry page for more details.

Cabled slipper socks

As a very belated birthday gift for my grandma, I finished a pair of charcoal grey cabled slipper socks. They turned out so cozy! This yarn is a washable superwash yarn, so it's soft and easy-care. I used a mash-up of two patterns for DK-weight socks, the numbers from the Sole Mate Socks pattern, cable from Sunday Morning, and my own rounded toe. More details on my ravelrypage.

Baby socks

Lastly, I had some leftover blush pink yarn from my aforementioned Cyril socks, and since we have friends having babies, it was the perfect amount to knit a tiny pair of Baby Mitten socks. This is seriously the cutest baby pattern, and apparently, this style of baby sock stays on wiggly baby feet the best. For more details, see my ravelry page.
