June, Part 2: A baby shower for Katelyn!

Now that it's nearly August, I suppose I should write the post I planned to write about the rest of our June. I seem to be about a month and a half behind (or more) in blogging, but I keep reminding myself that it's okay. Even if a blog post doesn't fit in the rapid and immediate time table that much of social media has, it is still meaningful for me to write about our life!

I alluded to as much in my last post, but the day after Cooper's birthday, we hosted a baby shower for my sister-in-law, Katelyn, who is expecting their first baby (a girl!) with her husband, Devin. We are thrilled for them and it was a joy to host a party to celebrate baby girl and their family of three.

I had a lot of help from my Father-in-law's fiancée, Kate, and from other family members who were in town (thank you, everyone)!

I made homemade chicken salad, served on Costco croissants, which are actually quite good. We had fresh fruit, and a veggie tray with hummus. For dessert, Kate brought homemade banana pudding, and I made sourdough chocolate chip cookies, and a sourdough yogurt snacking cake (orange, cinnamon, and cardamom).

We mingled and visited at the start of the party, then I read a short devotional and prayed for Katelyn, and then she opened her gifts. I knit my favorite baby hat pattern in time for the shower. It fits so well and actually stays on a little one's head! (Link to my ravelry project page here).

It was a beautiful day outside, and it was a blessing to celebrate this new precious life (and the start of a family of three) with so many friends and family members who drove from near and far. And I took almost zero photos. Thank you to those who sent me some from the shower!

On an unrelated note, in the days after the shower, the five of us all got sick to varying degrees with various ailments including fevers and body aches, pink eye, strep, and the worst poison ivy rash near Nicholas' eye. I definitely can't recommend simultaneous strep and pink eye in multiple children (lol) and it was a very challenging few weeks, and needless to say, the remainder of the month was spent sick and recovering, so there's not a lot to report there. By the fourth of July, we had all (finally) recovered (phew).

Katelyn and Devin were in town this past weekend for one last visit before baby girl's arrival, and while I didn't personally take any of these photos, I wanted to share a few of Katelyn and Devin and my Father-in-law, because they turned out great and Katelyn is absolutely glowing. We are praying for a smooth last few weeks of pregnancy and the safe arrival of our niece in the next month or so! We are so excited to meet her and we love you, Katelyn and Devin!
