A crocheted baby blanket, finished

When we heard the news that my sister- and brother-in-law were expecting their first baby, I knew I wanted to crochet a baby blanket. In my mind, crochet feels faster* and I love the density of the fabric you can create with it.

Although I am an experienced knitter, I am mostly certainly still a novice crocheter. After numerous failed attempts to teach myself how to hold a crochet hook, I finally learned three(?) years ago when my friend, Kathleen taught me in person. And while I am no expert, I have become a bit more proficient in reading very basic crochet patterns.

I chose a blanket kit from Purl Soho, so this blanket would be striped. I knew that I wanted a neat edge without the need for a border, and a neat transition between colors.

Ultimately, after swatching at leat four different stitch patterns, I decided on the very simple blanket pattern that the kit is adjacent to – The Crochet Super Easy Baby Blanket. It's a free pattern, but essentially, it's just single crochet every row. The pattern is very beginner-friendly, offering helpful tips about yarn usage and color changing.

I absolutely love the colors, and the yarn texture was delightful, smooth, and soft. It's 100% superwash wool, so it will be washable and dryable when it inevitably needs to be washed and dried after hopefully lots of use.

Overall, I was so pleased with how it turned out! I would definitely knit or crochet with this yarn again.

*While many crochet stitch patterns might have been significantly faster than knitting, I did choose a stitch pattern that is rather slow going. That said, I truly did enjoy crocheting with this yarn and the stripes kept my attention throughout.
