A race and a visit to the farm

In early September, the boys participated in a kids' race during a local festival. Cooper has run it several times and looks forward to it every year. Finn ran (or rather, literally skipped his way through it) for the first time this year and he was especially proud of his race shirt. My sister-in-law, Katelyn, and her husband, Devin were in town for the weekend and they got to see the boys' race as well! It was a cool morning – perfect sweater weather.

After the race, we meandered around the festival a bit. Katelyn took some photos of the five of us (thank you, Katelyn!), and somehow only 3 or 4 of the 5 of us are looking or smiling in each one. Not too bad, right?

We had some downtime at home, which included the enjoyment of a homemade latte, open windows, and preparing sourdough hot dog buns. Finn took a nap on Nicholas' lap. And that evening, we had family over for grilled hot dogs and brats. I baked a yogurt snacking cake (with cinnamon, cardamom, and orange zest), and we enjoyed a meal outside on the deck.

The following Sunday, we drove out to visit Grandpa DeVries and Aunt Brenda on the farm. I made blondies, since Grandpa enjoys those. We all visited together, the boys played with toys, we ate blondies.

And then Katelyn and I went on a little walk outside with the boys, and I admired Aunt Brenda's dahlias. It was a beautiful, blue-skied day and a very sweet visit.

Such a very full (and very sweet) weekend with family.
